حصد الفيلم الوثائقي السعودي القصير «عروس التراث»، من إبداع الأستاذ المشارك في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية الدكتورة سهام آل حيدر، جائزة «أفضل فيلم قصير جداً»، في مهرجان «أوساكا هورايزن» الدولي للأفلام باليابان، في يونيو 2026، بعد رحلة انطلقت من جبال عسير، ووصلت إلى مهرجانات دولية في الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا والشرق الأوسط واليابان.
وقدم الفيلم الأزياء النسائية العسيرية إلى جمهور عالمي، مستعرضاً المنديل الأصفر والحلي الفضية والأقمشة المطرزة، بوصفها شواهد على الهوية الثقافية والحياة الاجتماعية للمرأة في جنوب المملكة.
يوثق الفيلم، المتاح عبر «يوتيوب»، الأزياء والحلي التقليدية، ومنها «الشيلة» وطريقة لف النساء الأقمشة حول خصورهن أثناء العمل في الحقول، كاشفاً العلاقة بين الجمال والعمل اليومي.
وأوضحت آل حيدر، في مقابلة مع القائمين على جوائز مهرجان كان السينمائي، أن المشروع يستكشف التراث المادي وغير المادي عبر السرد البصري والصوتي، بهدف المحافظة على الموروث العسيري للأجيال القادمة.
وتجمع آل حيدر بين اهتمامات بحثية تشمل الأنثروبولوجيا وعلم اللغة والسيميائيات والإثنوغرافيا. وتلقت تدريبها بجامعة فلوريدا، وعملت باحثة زائرة ضمن برنامج «فولبرايت» بجامعة ولاية أريزونا.
وتوظف خبرتها في توثيق الأزياء والعمارة التقليدية، وإحياء المجوهرات والملابس النسائية بلمسات معاصرة، وفق فلسفتها: «التمسك بالماضي والمضي قدماً نحو المستقبل».
من عسير إلى مهرجانات العالم
سجل الفيلم عشرة اختيارات رسمية في مهرجانات دولية، ووصولاً إلى نصف النهائي، وأربع شهادات تقدير، إلى جانب جائزة أوساكا.
وشملت مشاركاته بنسلفانيا وأريزونا ولوس أنجليس ونيويورك وتركيا واليونان وفرنسا وبريطانيا والبرتغال، كما بلغ نصف نهائي مهرجان كان العالمي للأفلام عام 2025.
وينسجم الفيلم مع مستهدفات رؤية المملكة 2030، في المحافظة على الهوية الوطنية وتعزيز الحضور الثقافي السعودي عالمياً.
وتبرز عسير بموروثها العمراني والفني، ومنه قرية «رجال ألمع» التي تضم نحو 60 قصراً تراثياً، وفن «القط العسيري» المدرج لدى اليونسكو ضمن التراث الثقافي غير المادي عام 2017.
الثقافة والسياحة.. مساران متكاملان
يجمع الفيلم بين السينما والتراث والأزياء والأهازيج الشعبية، بما يتقاطع مع أهداف وزارة الثقافة في تعزيز التبادل الثقافي الدولي، وجهود وزارة السياحة للتعريف بالوجهات التراثية، ضمن مستهدف الوصول إلى 150 مليون زيارة بحلول 2030.
وتطمح آل حيدر إلى بناء منصة عالمية تقدم القصص السعودية وتراثها المادي وغير المادي، وتعرّف الجمهور بالعمارة والأزياء والحرف والعادات المتوارثة.
وتجسد جائزة أوساكا، قدرة الحكاية المحلية على عبور الحدود؛ إذ تحولت تفاصيل حياة نساء عسير إلى رسالة ثقافية عالمية، تحمل ذاكرة الماضي إلى المستقبل.
«عروس التراث».. جمال الحياة اليومية
The short Saudi documentary film “Bride of Heritage,” created by Associate Professor Dr. Suhaim Al-Haidar from the English Department, won the award for “Best Very Short Film” at the “Osaka Horizon” International Film Festival in Japan in June 2026, after a journey that started in the Asir Mountains and reached international festivals in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Japan.
The film presented Asiri women’s fashion to a global audience, showcasing the yellow scarf, silver jewelry, and embroidered fabrics as evidence of the cultural identity and social life of women in the southern region of the Kingdom.
The film, available on “YouTube,” documents traditional clothing and jewelry, including the “shaila” and the way women wrap fabrics around their waists while working in the fields, revealing the relationship between beauty and daily work.
Al-Haidar explained in an interview with the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival awards that the project explores both tangible and intangible heritage through visual and auditory storytelling, aiming to preserve the Asiri heritage for future generations.
Al-Haidar combines research interests that include anthropology, linguistics, semiotics, and ethnography. She received her training at the University of Florida and worked as a visiting researcher in the Fulbright program at Arizona State University.
She utilizes her expertise in documenting traditional clothing and architecture, revitalizing jewelry and women’s garments with contemporary touches, according to her philosophy: “Holding onto the past while moving forward into the future.”
From Asir to the World Festivals
The film recorded ten official selections at international festivals, reaching the semifinals, and received four certificates of appreciation, in addition to the Osaka award.
Its participations included Pennsylvania, Arizona, Los Angeles, New York, Turkey, Greece, France, Britain, and Portugal, and it reached the semifinals of the Cannes International Film Festival in 2025.
The film aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to preserve national identity and enhance the global cultural presence of Saudi Arabia.
Asir stands out with its architectural and artistic heritage, including the village of “Rijal Almaa,” which contains about 60 heritage palaces, and the “Asiri Cat” art, which was listed by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage in 2017.
Culture and Tourism: Complementary Paths
The film combines cinema, heritage, fashion, and folk songs, intersecting with the Ministry of Culture’s goals to enhance international cultural exchange and the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to promote heritage destinations, as part of the target to reach 150 million visits by 2030.
Al-Haidar aspires to build a global platform that presents Saudi stories and its tangible and intangible heritage, introducing the audience to architecture, fashion, crafts, and inherited customs.
The Osaka award embodies the ability of local stories to cross borders; the details of the lives of Asir women have transformed into a global cultural message, carrying the memory of the past into the future.
